~A Time for Healing~

History was made today. America's first black President was inaugurated. And what was the craziest thing, was I didn't watch any of the history in the making. (Unless you count cycling through the TV channels to get to something else to watch then technically my eyes did glimpse a few seconds of it)

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a major history buff and am very into politics. So why was it that I was not front and center at the television to witness such an event? Well first I must admit that this was the first presidential race that I honestly did not follow heavily. Again, why when it was to be a very historical one? I mean our first woman or our first black man could possibly be the next president of the United States of America! Perhaps, it was growing up I once heard that a nation's leader is only as good as its people. And truly a good majority of the American people are slaves to the ever nasty media and can not think for themselves. Almost like sheep ready for slaughter. So whoever was to be voted in, was only to be as good as the people themselves.....

Well I shall answer why I was apathetic to this event in history. I truly was sick and tired of the presidential bashing of George W. Bush. Every time something happened here or even a leaf falling off a tree it was Bushes fault. Being a very patriotic American, I stand by my President. Truly, it isn't just the president that changes the course of this country. He has advisers and a cabinet that help make major decisions and we have a congress and a judicial system that are every bit as involved in major decisions as well. So why is it that suddenly a new democratic, black president is going to ride in and save the country? I am going to laugh four years from now when everyone is Obama bashing and is screaming for change. Get real people, one man can not do it all! To think that, is absolute ridiculousness. If one wants change, than one needs to start with themself and stop being a slave to the media.

Lastly, to finish off why I was not tuned into this most historical day, I being an individual who always sees the glass as full, believe this event is a time for healing. One of America's problems as well as most countries around the globe, is the racial differences that divide a country. Due to our past history of slavery and segregation, nothing not even time seemed to mend these wounds. However, today, with the inauguration of our first black president, these harsh wounds shall hopefully begin to heal. I mean if a man of color can make it to the highest position in the land, then truly those old hurts need to be buried and laid to rest by those that are still carrying them. And perhaps a nation that was subconsciously divided shall be whole once again. I know that is wishful thinking but it is my hope that peace and love will abound and we can all sing kum by ya around a campfire that is until the media comes up with another good divide and conquer tactic. But just speak with me in four years and we can have a cold brew, a hot dog, some apple pie and a good laugh...
